Today I’m beginning Module 2 of the Applied Statistics with R course, a continuing education program jointly organized by the Departments of Mathematics and Ecology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, in collaboration with the Biostatistics Departments of GEICAM and the IMDEA Food Institute.

As part of my postdoctoral training under the Momentum-CSIC program, this course is a key opportunity to strengthen my analytical skills and deepen my knowledge of statistical methods — particularly in the context of interactive data visualization with Shiny, the focus of this module.

The program is structured into ten modules covering a wide range of statistical techniques, from regression techniques and multivariate analysis to mixed models, machine learning, deep learning, and network analysis — all taught using R, a fundamental tool in data science.

During this Module 2, I will dive into the capabilities of Shiny to build interactive web applications for data exploration and communication — a skill highly relevant to my postdoctoral project, which involves the development of digital infrastructures for ecological and AI-driven research.

This training perfectly complements my work at the intersection of artificial intelligence, molecular ecology, and data visualization, which involves developing digital infrastructures and workflows for ecological research enhanced by AI. Learning to create interactive visual tools will enhance how I present complex datasets and facilitate collaboration across scientific communities.

This course supports the overarching goal of Momentum program: to empower interdisciplinary researchers in acquiring advanced analytical and programming skills to lead the digital transformation of science.
